OUR STORY

Peak Vision Clinic began as Carkner’s Family Vision Care in 1943 when Dr. Clarence G. Carkner opened his doors to the Portland community for the first time.

Widely regarded as the father of Oregon optometry, Dr. Clary was deeply involved in every facet of optometry from the very beginning. From founder, faculty, and Board of Trustees member at Pacific University School of Optometry, to President of the Oregon Optometric Association and later, clinical examiner for the National Board of Optometric Examiners, Dr. Clary wore many hats over the years.

In 1999, the Oregon Optometrist of the Year Award was renamed the C.G. Carkner OD of the Year Award in his honor.

Dr. Clary’s decorated career would go on to span nearly 60 years, a testament to his passion for optometry and dedication to serving his community. True to its name, Carkner’s Family Vision Care was family oriented to its core; sons Donald and David would go on to join as optometrists, son Steve as lead optician, grandson Jeffry as a third-generation optometrist, and daughter-in-law Lisa as a staff member.

Now three generations later, Dr. Keely Hoban along with Dr. David Carkner, Dr. Emily Bee and Dr. Serena Cox remain dedicated to carrying on Dr. Clary’s legacy; continuing to serve the Portland and Tualatin communities while offering the latest in optometric technology, eyewear, and contact lenses for patients at Peak Vision Clinic.

We look forward to what the future holds for this new era as Peak Vision Clinic and hope you join us on the journey!
